I never got these from the ICPS but a friend of mine gave me a S. alabamensis AL-005 last fall it was not doing great at the time but it looks like it is coming up nicely. -Jeremiah- Hey Jeremiah, Do me a favor...correct that "AL-005" tag. There is no such designation yet. The code number refers to a site, not a clone or anything like that. We've only distributed plants from AL-001, AL002, AL003. If we get around to distributing plants from other Alabama sites so we need to define an AL-004 or AL-005, your plant will confuse folks into thinking it's from a site it is not. Cheers Barry

Hey Bob,
Cool on the divisions. BTW, the site AL-AL-03 is the same as AL-003. I had originally coded the tags AL-AL-0# to indicate:
Alabama-S. alabamensis-site#.
But then I figured that this would become a mess in the future if we wanted to use it to indication multi-species sites. I prefer the simpler AL-001, AL-002, AL-003 system now, where the AL merely indicates Alabama.

Remember the Sarracenia alabamensis distribution project the ICPS did? How did that work? How are your plants? Should we do it again?

Curious about details and developments on the Nepenthes clipeata survival program? This is where you can find out more!

Hey Bob,
I am hobbled by my use of internet explorer. However, I just tried the spell check feature and it worked perfectly well.

I am perhaps in the minority when I reveal I spell check my posts (ussualy).
Anyway, is there a way to add words to spell check's dictionary, so I don't have to keep telling it to ignore things like "purpurea" etc?

Hmmm. I kind of think that it would be better to have it more specific. I first thought, well, it is Dionaea flower season, but was instantly chagrined by my hemispheric chauvanism. How about something like "Drosera flowers" or some other genus? Not a particularly pretty genus for flowers, but this could be an interesting challenge.
But please, I'm open to other suggestions.....

I think this forum is different already. One of the things which struck me straight away are the big cp names that are present like bob and barry. To be able to put questions to these people and learn from their many years of experience is invaluable.Especialy for beginners such as myself. Hey wallsg7, I'm tickled that you consider me one of the "big cp names". But don't confuse prominence in this very small culture with expertise. They don't always go hand in hand. Leilani, sunbelle, and Robert Cantley on this forum all know vastly more about Nepenthes than I, while there are comparable experts on the other genera on line. These folks are also on other fora, too. Bob, on the other hand, is hugely qualified, and I pattern myself after him. He is my hero. I have a Bob shrine in a secret room, with newspaper articles, a few hair samples, and even a toenail clipping or two.

I think the issue on sales will be considered carefully before it can be answered, partly because we have to make sure there are no infringements upon the ICPS's nonprofit status. There are a few somewhat obscure rules that must be followed.
However, Matt, I'm happy to comment on your concern about the ownership of this forum. Bob's name is all over it because, like any ICPS activity, it is member-driven. Bob is doing this because he thinks it was a good idea, and got official clearance blah blah blah. But it is an ICPS thing. Otherwise, that VFT graphic wouldn't be at the top-left of your screen.
Cheers

Oooohhhh!!!
An important new category:
Meeting announcements
I think this should be a main category in the "General CP discussions" area. That way, it could have threads for ICPS international conferences, the Sarawak summit, regional meetings, etc.

Nice suggestions, Nicole.
One discussion category that I predict will die from lack of use is the "discussion of CPN articles not yet published." I consider it a holy vow of editorship not to discuss an article in prepublication, with anyone other than the authors, referees, or my tear-stained pillow. Meanwhile, authors know that they shouldn't leak article pre-publication, otherwise there's not much point in spending ICPS money getting the article published...

Are there any plans to give a lounge/general discussion area? An interesting question. Watching the other forums, I've noticed that sometimes the most egregious postings that step over the line of questionable decency) seem to congregate around the "lounge" areas. Is that your impression? I'm not saying the idea should be nixed...far from it...I'm just asking a background question. You've got more experience on this than I do. Barry

I think your breakdown sounds great. There will be difficult choices, since the border of Asia and Australasia is messy, etc., but this should work pretty well.
Yeah, the non-CP category would have peas and petunias. But also Rafflesia, Amorphophallus, Cuscuta, Desmodium motorum, and all the other interesting non-CP that we find interesting.
After all, the plant on the back cover of the December 2006 CPN is absolutely a non-CP (at least, according to our current understanding).

Hey Bob,
1)What do you think about adding a category for non-CP?
2)What about a section on trip reports? Maybe put a major new header on the front page called "News from the Field", then break that down into separate sections for each continent?
Cheers
