I am perhaps in the minority when I reveal I spell check my posts (ussualy).
Anyway, is there a way to add words to spell check's dictionary, so I don't have to keep telling it to ignore things like "purpurea" etc?

I will check if a feature exists in ProBoards to add words to the spell check dictionary.
I have not used this ProBoards spell check feature, because I use the Firefox browser that automatically checks spelling of everything that I type and underlines it in red. A rightclick on the suspect word brings up alternative spelling. You can also add the word to the dictionary.
A similar feature exists in IE if you use the Google toolbar. However, in this case, you must click on the "ABC Check" button on the toolbar. You can also add words to that dictionary.

I use the forum-version too and I am glad it's there since my Foxxie speaks Dutch

Hey Bob,
I am hobbled by my use of internet explorer. However, I just tried the spell check feature and it worked perfectly well.

Beatrice, ;D Try this add-on - www.iespell.com/I find it works very well and words may be added to the dictionary.

Say Aidan! Great find. I will have to share your link with all of my friends who use IE who actually try to correct their spelling! (sigh) I am not one who uses spell checks. If the binomial gets too long, I just cut and paste it it.

Hello, Err, I didn't get it... Did they say they will take our suggestions and then ignore them? Anyway, yes there should be a way to update the dictionary on the server side.
