I spent some time learning the software for a stereo zoom microscope I use at work. I took some photos of four species of sundew, three known, one unknown. The scale bar in the photo was calibrated with a stage micrometer and is correct. 100 micro meters equals 0.1 mm, I was zoomed at 50x when I looked through the eyepieces and took the pictures. The computer monitor adds extra magnification.
Drosera filiformis:
Well I get an error message saying "Error, this forum has exceeded its attachment space limit. Your file cannot be uploaded." So much for the photos.

Welcome Paulo. Do you give your flytraps a dormancy?

Nice plants. I guess you don't stay down in the 30's very long? I'm curious how yours do without a really cold dormancy.

Welcome Coursair. How cold do your winter temperatures get? I'm wondering about dormancy requirements for some of your plants.

In traveling, don't neglect what is close to home. Sometimes we don't appreciate what we have in our backyard because it is so close.

I let my VFT enter dormancy naturally by leaving them outdoors for the first few light frosts. I then move them to an unheated garage until the temps are forecasted to fall substantially below freezing. Then I depot my VFT and cut off the leaves and roots. I store them in the refrigerator in sealed plastic bags of moist sphagnum peat moss in the dark till time to repot in mid spring. They are totally in the dark unless the door is opened.

-10C is about 14F and we can get colder than that overnight for a week or so. The absolute coldest night since 1984 has been -29C or -20F. That was very unusual. I've seen a few years with -18C or 0F for a day or so.

Most of mine are in 10" pots and badly in need of thinning. I plan on doing it this spring. The S. leucophylla was in an 8" pot. The rhizome was maybe 6" long and 1/2" diameter. The roots looked really healthy. Hated to depot it, but the garage might have been a death sentence. I don't have a dedicated plant refrigerator and need to keep peace with the wife taking up space on her bottom shelf!! Can't store a potted plant.

Welcome Remy. I'm new on this forum too. I really enjoy these plants, but have to limit myself to those that can overwinter in a cold garage. (I do use the refrigerator for VFT and now one S. leucophylla.
