He's had a rough time He arrived with those gnarled leaves already on him and his growth point halfway snapped off and when I unpotted him he was in... pretty old mucky sphagnum to say the least. Hope he pulls through. He feels pretty dry even though the RH is about 90%. I think the metal halide must have burnt him a little bit, too lol. He's supposed to be a grade A.

My Viking grows well in a very well-drained pot (so it does need a lot of watering). Hot greenhouse, 80% rel. humidity, and that should do!
Good luck,
OL

Looks great! Love the undulating leaves!
If that's only 1.5 years old then they DO grow fast!

Yes they are very fast growers under hot climate.

Vikings are not picky about growing media, but they do prefer hot, humid and bright.

Actually, I'll have to disagree a bit. I find that it doesn't grow as well in sphag as it does in peat/perlite/vermiculite/cedar mulch. Judging from the habitat the plant is found in, I figured that it would prefer a more "terrestrial" mix than just sphag, and for me at least, that seems to be the case

JustLikeAPill, I don't think it is possible to get a Nepenthes through a shipping without some trauma. Your plant looks good to me! You have healthy leaves! I look forward to the future trials of N. viking cultural information, from different growers.

Please call me Clint Well Steve, I'm happy to report that after ignoring it since the last photo it's got a new deforned leaf coming up, so that's good. 2 or 3 of the old leaves dried up and died but that doesn't seem to matter. LFS blended into sawdust looks pretty weird.. I was told not to use peat at all so I blended LFS and it's got this weird.. just a very strange look when it's in or covered water. Almost gelatenous in it's movement. I can't describe it lol.

Nice to know the cutting is doing well . Who told you not to use peat? (PM me if need be). I would rather stay away from LFS than peat with this species. Right now I'm trying a normal cutting and a root cutting in peat/perlite/lava rock.

No, I just ran out of peat so I blended LFS into peat-consistency. Since then I've gotten more peat lol.
