I was sent this east Texas Utricularia inflata on 3 January 06. I tossed them in my catch-all 20-gal aquarium in my unheated greenhouse and generally forgot them. During summer 2006, I did not see any plants so I figured they never made it. The aquarium is under my benches and I seldom look at it. Occasionally I forget until I notice all the water but an inch or so has evaporated and then I fill it up again. About a month ago, I noticed several plants growing among my Aldrovanda and U. gibba. Today the plants are in flower.

Lavish care on plants and nothing happens, or worse still they croak. Ignore them and look what happens.

On your first post you just mentioned that you use an aquarium in an unheated greenhousea nd you just add water. That's it? All you do is add water into an aquarium and put plants there? no soil? nothing?

No soil, nothing.
U. inflata is a totally aquatic utric. It and its close relative U. radiata are native to the east coast. I'm hoping to collect some myself this spring/summer.
I'll let you know if I'm successful and maybe we can do a swap for some western utric?
Cheers. Jim

All you do is add water into an aquarium and put plants there? no soil? nothing? Bob comes from the 'Tough Love' school of growing CP. Other than a few petios, most seem to realize that they won't receive any special care, get over it and grow like there's no tomorrow... His VFT 'Wacky Traps' and his D. regia are just 2 examples of the results of his approach. I'm beginning to think that 'plant fear' equates to CP fertilizer ..... ;D ;D
