I'm looking to make an above ground planter for my pitchers, and I'm wondering if anyone has had any issues/experience using a galvanized stock tank. I'm not in a position to haul a clawfoot tub, so I'm planning to get a watering trough (1'x2'x6'.) I wouldn't mind using a pond liner inside if that would help. I just thought it would be best to ask before making the purchase. Thanks in advance for any replies. -Michael

If it is certain not to rust, it might work.

My concern is whether the galvanized metal would leach out chemicals that would be toxic to my carnivorous plants; I suppose I should have been more specific with my question. Thanks for the reply though:)

It will rust with the wet acidic mix of your soil being in contact with it and zinc isn't good for carnivorous plants, whether it would be sufficient to kill them at that size, and without a drain, I wouldn't know. Line it and you will be fine, although you may want to consider how you can drain it, if necessary, to stop anaerobic conditions should it get inundated frequently.
