There are a lot of VFT cultivars available, mostly featuring stronger red coloration. I'll throw this out there - what are the "best" VFT cultivars? Also, are any cultivars easier to grow than others?

There are actually few cultivars available. Others are unofficially named plants and most of those fall within the range of typical characteristics for the species. In other words, they don't deserve the names that have become attached to them.
As for what's best... that's a matter of personal opinion. I believe a well grown typical plant to be hard to beat.
There are a few plants that are known to be difficult in cultivation. 'Wacky Traps' being the prime example, which is perhaps hardly surprising.

I agree with Aidan. "Best" depends on what you like (what is the best music?). My favorite VFT is 'Wacky Traps' because it is difficult to grow and looks weird. Most growers think it is ugly and should be destroyed. Trev has put together a nice display of various clones. www.freewebs.com/vftshop/vftgallery.htmWhat a particular plant looks like depends in no small part on the growing conditions, including light intensity and duration. Compare how variable a particular clone can be when grown by different people users.humboldt.edu/rziemer/Dionaea.html

Talking of which - Any signs of flowers after last year's disaster? Thank you for asking. You forced me to go out and take a couple of photos this afternoon. A new flower stalk is on the way. I will try to pollinate it again this year. .

My own favorite cultivated clone is probably whatever is looking best in my collection at the time. I know that I frequently look at 'Fused Tooth' because it is so creepy. My all-time favorite VFT is one that I found in a nature preserve (NOT the Green Swamp) that had (and presumably still has) bright red traps and beautiful red banding: www.sarracenia.com/photos/dionaea/dmusc72.jpgVery, very pretty. I don't know whether it is consistent in coloration from year to year. I idly tried to relocate it this spring, but it is an impossible task, as those who have visited VFT wiregrass habitat would know. Barry

I found one in Home Depot believe it or not earlier this year, under the Gubler's label. I suspect they just resell from AgriStarts3 rather than propagate their own. This one must have gotten mixed up in the batch.

I'm glad Agristarts III is distributing Dionaea 'Cupped Trap" again. Barry I don't see anything creepy about cute little D. 'Fused Tooth' For ease of growth, I have to vote for D. 'Big Mouth', or D. 'Jaws'. They are both very prolific. Take care, Steven Stewart

I'm glad Agristarts III is distributing Dionaea 'Cupped Trap" again. I would hope so, since it is your child.

Bob, I only submitted the name for the little guy to standardize it, not to claim it as my child! I swear Dionaea 'Cupped Trap' is someone (Agristarts III) else's creation, not mine!

Yeah, the name looked familiar to me too but I couldn't place it. I thought it was just the juxtaposition of Stewart and Florida from my old travel industry days.
Of the cultivars I have so far 'Cupped Trap' and 'Sawtooth' are my favorites. The 'Cupped Trap' is slowly recovering from the two flower stalks it pushed up. The second photo I posted was taken several weeks after the first and if you look closely you can see the stump of the first stalk and if you look closer still you'll notice a couple of the younger leaves have no traps!
