I just got a hoard of new sundews (thanks California Carnivores) and whaddya know, all of the seedlings I planted from earlier plants started sprouting like gang busters (first time). I'm now looking at over 40 various sundews now. My guys currently live in a terrarium, and what I usually did was take them outside during the cooler parts of the day. I'm starting to realize that's now going to be impractical (I live in Nebraska where it gets 110+ in the summer, so I can't leave them outside either). So I'm starting to look for alternative means for them to stay fat. I was reading in Peter's book (Savage Garden) that wingless fruit flies (purchased from pet stores) are a good food for sundews. I found this at PetCo: www.petco.com/product/111031/The-Fruit-Fly-Company-Flightless-Fruit-Fly-Starter-Kit.aspx?CoreCat=MM_ReptileSupplies_LiveCricketsWormsFruitFliesAnd was wondering if anyone has had any luck with something like this for Sundews? I'm really looking for a means to feed all the guys cheaply and effectively. I'm hoping either what I found above or some other suggestion might help. Thanks!

Fruit flies are the major staple of my indoors Drosera. Just make sure to pick the flies off after a few days or they get mold/fungus.
You can make your on media cheaply and culture the flies yourself. I last bought a container of flies from Petco 4-5 years ago. Some instant mash potato flakes, sugar, baker's yeast is all you need. You can usually find the potato flakes and sugar at the dollar store. Optional are brewer's yeast (for additional nutrition, vitamins etc.), mold inhibitor, unpastuerized vinegar. You can find these in health food stores, bakery supplies, etc. Search online for various recipes.

Same here. I regularly feed my drosera fruitflies. Best places to get media recipies I have found are reptile websites and forums. The recipe I use is basically what NaN suggested. I add vinegar to inhibit mold and I use nutritional yeast (basically brewers yeast which has been fortified- health food stores have it, usually super cheap) as the base yeast instead of baker's yeast.
