I am new to CP's and I have some ready for pots that are bare root, my problem is that I have a small apartment and I don't have much room for supplies. As a result I have been all over town looking for small bag of sphagnum peat. Other than miracle grow I cannot find a smaller bag that I can store. I found some at Walmart last night. It was everything that I need in the right size bag, except that the bag says it has lime "for PH balance" is that harmful to CP's specifically Sarracenia's?

I would not use it. You don't want pH balance, you want an acidic peat soil. That might work for Mexican Pinguicula.

This is a problem we run into all the time with our customers. When purchasing peat moss you have to buy it in the bales or you will certainly end up with additives in the soil in any small bags normally found with potting soils in stores. It may cost you a little more, but you can always buy cp soil premixed from any number of online cp dealers.

The Lowes here has larger bales for around $8.00 I believe. Good quality too, I was a little surprised and happy with it. Stay far far away from the bales they have at BigChain-mart (The packaging is blue and white, that is all I remember). That stuff smells very very weird and has lots of chunks and sticks. No bueno!
Do you have room for a tote somewhere? I buy the big bales and put the extra in a huge tote in my back yard. All my potting media are stored like that.

You can also find the smaller bales at Lowes. It is generally around the indoor tropical plants. I use one of the large bales each month and have been in a bind a time or two and can get the small bales from Lowes without a problem.

Our Lowes here locally has small bales of Long Fibered Sphagnum (which is nice to have around anyway) with the Orchids. They also have the miracle grow brand peat moss (blah!) and then they just started carrying the 3 cu bales.

I have been looking at some leopard geckos. Here is the peat moss I have been using. I have been very happy with it, costs $9.47. This of course does not fix the not enough space issue, but at $9.47 a bale you could almost buy the huge bag, use what you need, save a little extra in bags the size of what you could accommodate, then get rid of the rest. Just my thought. Not sure what the smaller bags cost though.

I had two Cyrtodactylus peguensis zebraicus hatch. Cute little buggers. I wish I could find my camera, I would take a few pics. Here is a pic of a few juvies from a few years ago. Although my reptiles are my passion, this will be the last pic I post pertaining to reptiles. I have received a dozen PM's pertaining to this picture alone. I have to keep my business seperate from my free time or it all becomes work. I do appologize as I love talking about my animals as do many reptile owners, but I come here to get away from the grind. I hope you can all understand.

I'll send you a PM about your geckos tomorrow morning. Don't wanna fly too too far off topic! Those are absolutely stunning!
