as several of you know....i have a scented flower form of D. binata. (http://www.terraforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109582)
anywho....in the future i might want to register this plant as a cultivar(as far as i know....there are no other scented clones) i have recently distributed this plant to about 4 members. i expect those members to re-distribute those plants so there will be a progeny of plants that are always still alive. i plan to give out more material right before winter hits. for those people out ther that know about working with cultivars(Bob Ziemer, Joseph Clemmens, Brooks Garcia, Aidan....anyone else) if one of you all could possibly work with me to get this little quest of mine on the right start, you can e-mail or PM me.

Hey Alex,
This is new terrain for a CP cultivar. To date, nearly all the CP cultivars have been made based upon coloration and physical form.
A few cultivars (such as Drosera regia 'Big Easy') have been made on vigor or ease of growth. These have not always been made with universal acceptance since some folks feel that the cultivars are not always significantly different in growth characters. Hard to say.
Anyway, Jan Schlauer will be able to help you. I really don't know how one writes the description for a plant with flower scent as the key character. Does one take a page from wine tasting, and try to describe the scent ("oaky, with a butter after-scent that lingers...") or is it acceptable to just say "scented flowers". How does one distinguish between plants with different flower scents? Is a photograph of the plant needed, since the form and color is not a distinguishing characteristic of the plant?
I don't know!!!!!!

Well, if you think it's good enough to be a cultivar, find a perfumer and ask him/her to categorize the scent into one of the five families. I wonder how much that would cost.
Spread the material around before you do anything, and if some of the other growers say it's scented, ehhh not to great. If they all notice it, then that's something!
What you should do is grow enough flowers to make a quarter or a half ounce of dried flowers and make an ethanol extraction to help you and the perfumer if you want to get one. You could also try an Enfleurage extraction.
Or you could ignore all that and just call it 'Scented Susan' lol. But that's no fun, now is it?

thats another reason i am distributing it.... to see if its stable. other than scent.... i dont think it does have any other features that i could comment on. ill distribute a bit more and watch it this coming year to see any changes in anything...
Thanks, Alex

Most of the Australian Heath bush found in costal areas were Drosera binata var.multifida f. extrema are found have scented flowers, I have never seen a flower because I believe mine need a bushfire before they will flower but I would say they would also be scented, Most of my tuberous Drosera have scented flowers, my Drosera indica plants smell like honey.
How are your aldrovanda?

Just because your plant dose not have a scent dose not mean other forms and clones won't. That is assuming that it is a multifida extrema and not another mix up.

The D. binata that were in the swamp near my place didn't have an appreciable scent. They also seemed to flower no worries without fire maybe the fires clear shading plants in your area
