Hey everyone, Had a quick question. Those who are cultivating U. reniformis (so the sake of simplicity, lets assume the species has not been split into two recently), what techniques are you using? Peter D'Amato lists this plant as an Epiphyte which is how I have been growing it but recently I saw some gown as emerging aquatics(Rice has this plant listed as an emerging aquatic in his book). I have also been told they do well in a Spagnum slurry. Over the next year I plan to do some experiments on this species. In the conservatory I have our specimen growing as a terrestrial but I plan to divide a clump off and try the slurry approach.
Any suggestions?

I grow my U. reniformis in a relatively open mix (about equal parts coarse quartz sand, perlite, and peat). They grow in my unheated greenhouse where winter temps occasionally reach freezing. The plants die back completely each winter and emerge again in the spring. I water from the top every couple of days. The soil is well drained and never soggy. That's just how I grow it, but I expect it is not terribly picky. Although it might depend on what clone you are growing.

As Bob says, the plant does not appear to be overly fussy. I have a large example sitting in an aquatic basket among my Sarracenia (in the same media!) where it spent last summer escaping into the lagoon it lives in. Edit: Found a photo -
