A single 'Goliath' and three guehoi plants are all I've got so the assumption is that the IDs are as labelled. Group photoB. 'Goliath' (left) and B. guehoi (right) Strange things, the fruits...B. guehoi(B) and (C) fruits almost always hang down while... B. 'Goliath' fruits face upwards! Seeds - interesting shapes and numbersB. guehoi(A) - pedicels are all upright except for 2-3 which are horizontal to the ground and never downwards The hybrid seeds are numerous (130-135) compared to the guehoi seeds (22). Hybrid seeds seem more angular than guehoi seeds which are more oval. The weather is changing and I can't sow the seeds until the next season to see how the hybrid will look like. But I hope they are viable. ;D

Very nice, Cindy. I like the photomicrographs of the seeds. So - that's really only 3 guehoi plants?

Hi Mark, The photomicrographs were actually quite poorly taken. I used the flash which gave a bright glare...didn't have a good source of light when I took the photos. Yup, only three plants with only one branching very early. Imagine if all three starting branching around the same time! Honestly, I do regret not potting them individually. Here's how the annual species compare in size and height. www.terraforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128264

Hi everyone,
I am glad to share that the B. "Goliath" x guehoi seeds are viable! ;D
Ten days ago, I finally gave in and soaked 100 "Goliath" x guehoi seeds in GA3 for 24 hours (despite the weather turning rainy).
Today, about 45 of them have germinated and the tallest is slightly more than 1/5", with three leaves.
Cheers!!

Hi Cindy, Excellent work! Your results definitely verify my earlier Byblis hybridizing experiments as true, further lending to the hypothesis that most published Byblis species are in fact hybrids... with many being complex back crosses. Thank you for your verification! Happy Growing, Brian

Hi Brian, What intrigued me was the number and shape of seeds formed by the species and hybrid. To date, I have collected between 200-400 seeds from each of the B. guehoi plants but 2000 seeds from the cross. Something in the "Goliath" helps! Here's a pic of the seedlings. Cheers!

Hey Cindy - very interesting - maybe you should think about a short write up for the CPN!

I think Cindy should think about a couple of writeups about her Byblis growing success! I have a thing or two to learn from her
