Hello, I just started an aquarium several months ago and I was starting to plant it with live plants. I was wondering if anyone is aware of or has had any experience growing Utricularia or Aldrovanda in a standard planted fish aquarium. I know that the CP's tend to grow in nitrogen starved environments, but I also know that Aldrovanda can handle higher nitrogen if other parameters are right. Any suggestions would be very appreciated, I miss having CP's and hope that just a Utricularia or Aldrovanda will do until I can begin growing Drosera again. Be Well, Jason

Why not? The high level of nitrogen can only reduce the formation of the traps. The whole plant should grow normally. There are the visual evidences www.musekautas.puslapiai.lt/?p=1601. Text is in Lithuanian, but photos proves that Utricularia graminifolia feels well in aquarium.

Several Utric species can be grown in any aquarium set up, but I can't recommend growing Aldrovanda in any aquarium set-up, as they require close proximity to the roots of large companion monocot plants and several other pond creatures all of which comprise a complex symbiotic community. Aldrovanda also grows incredibly fast (exponentially), and will out grow almost any size aquarium even if conditions were perfect. A small and shallow outdoor pond loaded with monocot plants such as Carex, Phragmites, Typha, Juncus species is best suited for them.

Hey Rich, I was wondering if you would chime in, Jim told me to get a hold of you How the hell have you been? I set up an aquarium out of desperation a few months ago (needed therapy animals with low maintenance requirements). I passed my nursing boards, so now I want to celebrate and start getting creative with the fish. I miss my CP's pretty bad, so I wanted to see if there is a work-around to include CP's in the damn thing. I figured it would be a struggle, but, what the hell, gotta try to get CP's somehow! Glad you chimed in
