I've been looking at this particular seedling and quite a few others from the same batch of seed harvested in 2008 from FlytrapRanch by Steve. There are a couple dozen or so that all look very similar and I think that they look very much like Dracula. For a reference of what Dracula looks like, see Bob Ziemer's Photo finder here: www.cpphotofinder.com/dionaea-dracula-2124.htmlFor a quick reference, here's a shot of Dracula (there are a lot more photos at the above link): Here are a few shots of one of the unnamed seedlings that is growing in my greenhouse: I also got a plant from Bob Ziemer last year that was Jaws X Petite Dragon and it had similar characteristics. My guess is that whatever genetic traits cause the look of Dracula aren't that rare when making crosses with Dentate Traps plants and other plants with good coloration.

It would be interesting for someone to group all of the official cultivars and those with local names into groups (or range) of comparable characteristics. For example, there is a range in "teeth" from very long ("Long Red Lashes") to none ("Gums"), from dark red traps ('Akai Ryu') to green ('Justina Davis'), size from very large ('B52') to tiny ("Cudo"), petiole/trap attachment from very long ('Trichterfalle') to fused ('Korrigans'), etc. Most would fall in the middle with few distinguishing characters. "Dracula" would fall in with quite a few similar plants in many characters. BTW, Matt, would you reduce your posted photos to the recommended maximum of 750 x 750 pixels. See Rule 9 at icps.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rules&action=display&thread=1

Sorry about that Bob. I actually have these images hosted on my server (flytrapcare.com), so when I read that rule "Larger images may be linked off-site" I thought that it was OK. Now I understand that it means ALL embedded images should be a maximum of 750x750 regardless of where they're hosted, but larger images may be LINKED to off site. Next time I resize images to post, I'll make sure that they're under 750 pixels. If you'd like, I can (or you can) change the embedded images to links to the images instead.
