So its been really nice this weekend and I was working all week so i had no chance to check out my CPs. I noticed a lot of new growth...and the leaves that were there before grew ALOT anywho..on one of my 2 VFT's i noticed a different looking leaf..and thought it might be a flower bud (ive never had a vft flower on me (this is my first spring with CPs..ive had them since last summer) So is this a flower? (if you view it on my photobucket page it is bigger)

Depends on levels of light and temperature and the like. Given lots of sun and warm temperatures, i dont know, maybe three weeks? Personally, I never let my Dionaea flower, they get about that tall and i knock the bud right off.

Photos have been lost from that thread (Images hosted by photobucket who have a policy of closing accounts if they are not used for a while... which is a good reason not to use the service). Some of my photos of flower stalk cuttings may be seen here - www.insektenfang.com/ipforum/index.php?/topic/3380-b52-babies/

Why would I cut it off? The plant is not from a death cube. I bought it from Cobraplant.com last summer and took it out of dormancy. Does it not look healthy enough?

The plant expends considerable resources upon flowering and may look pretty rough for some time afterward. Many growers prefer to see leaves rather than flowers.

Dionaea flowers are very pretty. I'm letting my traps do their own thing this year and most of them are sprouting flower stalks with buds that are almost ready to open. It takes several weeks for the flower stalk to grow and the buds to develope. The blooms last for several weeks also and are very delecate and attractive. Perhaps this does take a lot of energy for the plant to produce flowers, but I believe that the stalk is also performing photosynthesis and providing energy for growth. My flytraps are getting ready to bloom and developing new traps at the same time. I have cut the flower stalks from some of the other plants and I see no difference in growth at this time. Time may tell and this is just another experiment for me. I am expecting a great flower show from my traps in May. ;D
