Hello, my name is Mike. I'm originally from Columbus, Ohio and now I'm living in Boston. I'm currently doing my graduate studies in biochemistry at Harvard. I got into CPs four years ago when I bought my first VFT from a local nursery, and was determined to keep it alive. I did a lot of reading (starting with Barry's ICPS FAQ site) and discovered that there were so many types of carnivorous plants and many could be grown at home! Three years ago I discovered and joined the New England Carnivorous Plant Society (NECPS). I remember my first few meetings: I was so excited to be able to win a bunch of awesome plants at the silent auctions. I thoroughly enjoy the monthly meetings, the yearly show, and most of the all the wonderful people. I am currently the acting membership chair for the society (though I am passing that on to another friend in the society). I enjoy growing all types of CPS, but most of all US native CPs. I also enjoy growing pygmy sundews. I also grow some Nepenthes, as well as some tropical sundews. My niche is growing Aldrovanda though: I grow it indoors in my planted aquariums. You can see my posts here if you're interested: icps.proboards105.com/index.cgi?board=aldrovanda&action=display&thread=1191470579icps.proboards105.com/index.cgi?board=aldrovanda&action=display&thread=1191470988

Actually...I started out in a public college also. I didn't start college until I was 22, having wasted 4 years after high school...along with screwing up my last year of high school. Anyhow, I got accepted to Ohio State as they had open enrollment for spring quarter (not sure they do that anymore). With a student population of 50,000+, Ohio State pretty much takes anyone also.
To make a long story short, I took college seriously, studied hard, found a good mentor...applied to Harvard for graduate school...and here I am.
I hope this is inspirational...doing well in college can erase a lot of prior mistakes!
