Well okay with a 102 degree heat wave it always isn't beautiful.
I've been growing carnivores for four years now. To those who want it I'm in zone 9. I have moderate experience growing carnivores.

Not all of California is sweltering. Here in Arcata, the weather in not unlike that in Anchorage. It is currently (10:30 am) a foggy 58F. The daily high is about 65F, nightly low 50F.

According to GardenWeb's zone finder I'm in zone 10. Under the Sunset Western Climate Zone I'm in 20 or 21
You should check with Ed Read over at CSU Fullerton as he has a good sized CP collection there.
If you're not a member of the LACPS the next meeting is Oct 20th.

wow you must not live far from me... i live in redlands in sandbernardino county and yeah it has been very hot sadly for my plants...since im at school all day and when im not at school im working so i neglected my plants over the past few days and with the heat i managed to kill them again....it good to know tho that it is possible for some to keep there plants alive in this heat......
