Hi. Was wondering if anyone has any advice for me? I have a VFT that is doing well (I think!) and I think it may need transplanting. The roots are growing out the bottom of the pot it came in. Right now, I have it in an old, small, plastic aquarium with one fluorescent light on top of it. It seems to be doing good, but I am worried that the roots coming out the bottom are going to get damaged, or it doesn't have enough room to grow. Any advice? And if I do transplant, how tall does the container have to be, i.e., how tall does a VFT get on average? Thanks!

A good place to start reading is here (and screens ahead): www.sarracenia.com/faq/faq2120.htmlYou did not say how large the "pot it came in". I grow nearly all of my VFTs in square 3.5-inch wide x 4-inch deep plastic pots. The plant only gets a couple of inches tall (in full sun), but if you let it flower, the flower stalk can get 12 inches or more tall.

Oh, the pot it came in is probably half of that size. It is a round pot probably like 2 inches in diameter and 3 inches deep. I did look through that link but there is nothing clear cut. From what I gather, why transplant it if it is growing so good?

Minerals build up and the peat moss breaks down more quickly in small pots.
This leads to poor growth or even death.
You'll have to repot it eventually.
