I'm really new to cps. I bought my first one a week ago. It's a Nepenthes 'Alata'. After doing some research on how to grow it I'm hooked. I have since found a Drosera, a Pinguicula and a Sarracenia. I joined the forum so I could learn about the best way to grow them.
I live on Vancouver Island in BC, Canada.

Nepenthes alata is a great first Nep. Very good choice. Great that you did some research on your own. Congratulations on your other first purchases too! I personally have a particular fondness for Pinguicula and Sarracenia.
You've come to the right place if you're hooked already and wanting to learn about meeting the cultural requirements of the plants you bought. A very warm welcome to you!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I have to admit that the fact I got a good beginners Nep was just by luck. I've never seen Nepenthes for sale before. I love interesting, different plants so I had to get one.
From looking up information about my new plant I learned a bit about the other cps and thought I’d like to try some others. Normally the grocery store gets a few Dionaeas in once in a while but they always look like they’re on their last legs. This time there were a couple of Droseras and Sarracenias and the Pinguicula. They aren’t in the best condition but hopefully I can get them to grow. I’ve been looking at pictures of different kinds to try identifying exactly which ones I have so that I can try to give them the growing conditions they need. Is there a place on the site to post pictures of them to get help to identify them?

Welcome. Just post it in the appropriate genera board. However, it would be much better if you researched them first for yourself by browsing random pictures of the genus you're interested in here. users.humboldt.edu/rziemer/PS: The plural form is the same as the singular form. Sarracenia not Sarracenias, Dionaea not Dionaeas, etc. It's like moose and buffalo. Your plant is also probably N. x ventrata, not a real N. alata. It's actually easier than N. alata because it's a hybrid.

Thanks for heads up on the correct plural forms for the different species. It's good to learn that before it's too deeply ingrained. I'm glad I might have a nep that's easier to grow. I'm leaving it outside overnight for the first time so hopefully it will be okay.
Thanks also for all the links to sources that will help me identify my plants. I wanted to do it myself but was feeling a bit overwhelmed by the volume of pictures. I will persevere and not post pictures until I can ask if I'm correct with my conclusions. I know I will learn a lot doing the research. My Pinguicula is going to bloom so that should help me.
Good luck with your plants too hikenyura. I'll have to look that nep up to see what you have.
