I have been using a setup of two Compact Florescent Bulbs in goose neck lamps for several months now with very good success. The One of the two bulbs is called daylight. the other is just a plain Compact Florescent Bulb. Has any one else use this setup and had any problems with it? The lights are over a small 5 gallon aquarium. I will try later to post a photo of my setup.

I started my growing with a setup like it just without the terarrium. It works alright, but you'll need more room for more plants in the future I'm sure, which will mean more lights... The big 4 footers end up being just plain economical for large area coverage. But as long as you have enough room, you should be fine Post some pics if you can! By the way, I've been told that the daylight bulbs give off the best light for plants to photosynthasis. What do you have growing in there? Keep up the good work!

I know it's been a while since this topic started, but I thought I would reply anyways. My compact fluorescent setup is working rather well. I have an exo-terra reptile terrarium with two twin-bulb CF exo-terra hoods. The hoods will only accept up to 23W CF bulbs. So, the 4 CF bulbs (daylight 6500k) are providing enough light for a small nepenthes, drosera, and cephalotus. Two sides of terrarium have reflective mylar, which helps increase the light levels a bit. Ultimately, when I have enough $ and space, I will make a giant terrarium with shoplights. For now... this works.

Sorry I haven't posted for a while, I will try to get some photos of my setup on here. I have 2 nepenthes and some sundews in the tank. The sundews are D. adelae and the Nepenthes are N. sanguinea and N. ventricosa.

I forgot to add that I have a Darlingtonia californica in the tank too. I just got it at lowes, and it was too later to put it into dormancy. By the way, those are some really nice plants pbrattain.
