Neat idea, would work good as an outdoor bog.
One question, why the white tube if you have an insert that would allow water all around it anyways?

One question, why the white tube if you have an insert that would allow water all around it anyways? I believe it is all about the watering method,this would be the equivalent of the tray method watering from the bottom.

A pipe such as this can serve two purposes:
It allows you to check the water level
and
As mentioned before it allows you to add water without flooding the surface. This could matter if you have seeds or seedlings or species that don't appreciate being flooded.

Ah, ok That makes sense, and you wouldn't have to pull the insert out every time either. Of all the things I've lost, it's my mind I miss the most
