I see a lot of posts about cooling enclosures for the highland plants but a search for heating didn't bring up anything, though maybe I didn't hit on the right search string. Do you find that the grow lights themselves provide enough heat to keep the plants happy? I'll be lighting both tanks with fluorescent tube grow lights. We tend to keep our house on the cooler side, low to mid 60's and cooler at night, and I'm worried that even in an enclosure the temperature wouldn't be optimal for my N. Rafflesiana.
I'm designing terrarium enclosures for both my Nepenthes since they are outgrowing the jars they're in. You can see them here on either side of my fish tank. I have since moved the lowland out of the window sill and into an interior room with a grow lamp because the window was too cold for it.
The highland plant seems like it would be alright without additional heat but I want to build in a timed thermostat/heating set up into the bottom of the other tank, and before I struck out on my own I thought I'd see if anyone had tried and true methods or brands. (I'm thinking under tank reptile heaters seem likely) I want to set up something I can to some extent automate since I'm a stagehand and don't want my plants to suffer from neglect for the weeks I'm out of the house in tech rehearsals 14 hours in a day. Right now they pretty much self water, and while both plants have grown I don't think they're really thriving per se.
From what I've been reading here though maybe I should be more concerned about cooling. If it would be helpful to see my the whole of my proposed enclosure I can draw it up and post it. When I say I'm building the tank I mean that I am actually planning to build the whole thing because I want a particular size and shape and look.
