We had our first killing frost this past week and all of my Cp's look pretty bad, especially the VFT's. But under all the black foliage I found 3 itty bitty plants! I am very excited, I have always had flowers and seeds, but never really baby plants. Interesting things, they have minute traps just like the adult plants do. ;D

Interesting, shouldn't the plants be dormant? Or did they get frost burn

Ya same here Up here in Missouri the frost is going to kill my plants and they will go dormant in 4-5 days. The worst will come Thursday. But back to the subject congrats I always cut my flowers off but I may not next year. Are they big enough to live through winter and come back next year.

The plants are now dormant and the leaves are black and falling off. The smaller plants must have had some protection from the dead foliage. The plants I have I leave outside since they are natives. I will have to post in spring to see if the seedlings will survive. I hope they do.

I have always had flowers and seeds, but never really baby plants. Congrats on your baby plants! What did you do with the seeds if you never got any baby plants from them? I repotted a couple of plants this fall and found some babies hiding in them too, however, I collected most of the seed and sowed it myself. I probably have over a thousand babies now!

I just leave my plants outside and do nothing except to ensure that their soil is slightly moist. I live in a zone 9 region where we occasionally get frost.

mmlr38, I never really tried to keep seed or sow seed. I always had the plants split through the bulbs to multiply.

Yeah, that's the easiest way to propagate plants and you always end up with identical plants to the parent plant, which is nice if you have particular clones. I have enjoyed growing VFT from seed this year though. The babies are so dang cute when you look at them up close.

You can also propogate them via leaf cuttings.

American types up close to the house out of the wind where temps don't drop as drastically. Never had baby vft's though.

Perhaps you and I can meet up and do some trades Justjack?
