Is it possible to breed two different species of plants, such as a sarr and VFT together? It seems a cool experiment. I will try it soon with my flowering plants, hopefully my VFT is going to flower soon, i already have a drosera with a stalk
I'm not a professional botanists, but I believe what you are suggesting is not possible. Those two taxa you mentioned are not just two different species, but they are members of two different genera. That's like trying to breed a human and a sheep -- not possible (although I've heard some have tried it)
Many times, though, two species of a particular genus can be successfully crossed -- such as Sarracenia flava and Sarracenia minor.
It's possible for two genera to breed. A lot of plants are intergeneric hybrids, especially orchids. However, at the moment you aren't able to cross two different CP genera. The closest match is D. regia and D. muscipula. I've heard people have tried that cross, gotten seed, and the seed either never germinated or germinated then died within a few days. I forgot who did it or if it was a rumor or documented or not.
It's not going to happen, so don't waste your time or pollen. I recommend you don't allow your Dionaea to flower. It's likely not in the best of shape and it will be wasted energy.
It would be great if you could use more descriptive titles. You've been using some vague titles lately, and that doesn't help anyone.
Also to give you a quick bio lesson thats rated G. Different animals and plants have different DNA. In order for the animals and plants to reproduce they each provide half of the chain of DNA. When two halves come together you get the offspring. Different plants and animals have different sizes and lengths in DNA.....They also have different patterns of DNA sort of like a puzzle......The only way for the DNA to become whole is if two halves came together. They can only come together if they match up with another strand of similiar size, length, pattern.....if one halve of a DNA strand is long and another is short they wont mix........all genra of plants and animals have differences in their DNA....this prevents us from mixing them, or them mixing accidently.
ooh, well i dont really know how to be too descriptive, but ok
He means, if you start a thread about breeding plants together, it might help to mention that in the title of the thread. "Multipule Plants..." indicates nothing about breeding various genera together. A better title might be "Crossing Nep and VFT, Possible?" Just a suggestion.
It would be so nice to start a new political party. Maybe name it, The Tea Party II for Americans, not racist anti-American douches that hate their neighbors? We need to reform our politics, not make them more partisan and dumber.
