This may be a dumb question, but how did the Venus Flytrap get the name 'Venus'? It doesn't seem to have much connection with the god of Love or the planet.

In my early years, while attending a botany class in college, a very proper middle aged professor lectured us about how throughout time, botanists seemed to be the more “twisted” of the natural scientists, and went on to tell us of how orchids got their name, way back in the days of Theophrastus and Aristotle (another amusing story) and how every time he attended a formal black-tie and champagne, orchid event with the AOS, someone would invariably ask him “So, how’s your orchids?” and smile, and everyone would know the inside joke.

HAHAHAHA!!! Thats a great story- and just when I thought I had explored that whole site. Don't know how I missed that- somehow i'd always thought that it came from some obscure comic book- mabey 'Attack of The killer Peopl/Flytraps from Venus' or 'The Day the Plants Bit Back'
