I was curious about the best place to purchase aquariums for growing CP. Just the raw tank, in 10 or 20 gal size. I figure one of the major pet-trade mega-stores, as I wouldn't want to mail order one of these. I have at times seen dollar-per gallon specials, but these are limited-time offers.

Walmart is where I have bought them. They had 10 gallon glass aquariums for about $10 or less in the past.

I've never seen plain 20 gallons at Wal mart before, just the 10's. Petsmart is good.

If it is the same on your side of the pond, tanks in all sizes may often be had for pennies when people dispose of them at the local municipal tip. I have picked up numerous examples this way (too many and they are now littering the garden!) from large to small.

People always seem to be killing their fish and selling their tanks - or giving them away. keep an eye on the newspaper - or if you have Craigslist in your area - that is the best place for deals.

I obtained my current Nepenthes tank from a free classified paper for 25 pounds. It is four feet by 15 inches by 12 inches. Mind you, the tank is only part of the expense. I reckon with the lights, ballast units, RCD, etc it cost me about 200 pounds to set up. You need proper aquarium lights with waterproof fittings. My two ballast units are on the back of the lid, outside the tank, to be safe.

Hi to all ! If you want to use fisf tanks ,and a great idea , you should use the aquqrium sideways , humidity by nature will go up but if you use the tank sideways the humidity will condense and allways have a pretty stable humidity, just put the light on top of the glass and it will help with heat control, if heat is needed just add a heat matt used for germination of seeds .
Sincerely ......///////////

I have picked up numerous examples this way (too many and they are now littering the garden!) from large to small. While this would make tons of sense (one person's trash is another's treasure), the lawyers have managed to create a toxic environment for any activities like this. There are large signs prohibiting taking anything. However, the FreeCycle network is managing to fill this need. Postings for used aquariums show up quite frequently.

Ah, USA... the land of litigation! Here the operators (and I'm sure they don't pay tax on the income) rescue anything they can to sell back to those visiting the facility. By it's very nature, most of what's available is rubbish! But I always look and now and then find something useful. Like numerous aquaria for conversion to terraria, or a PC for $6!!!

Hey,
I got my 10 gallon aquarium at a yard sale. Had to clean up but works just fine. Resale shops are another source.

yeah you may want to go to a couple of yard sales and see if they have any tanks for sale which alot of yard sales in my area do...next whatever you do dont buy a 10 gallon or less for more then 10 dollars.... walmart like alot of other people here have said is a good place to go....after walmrt try the goodwill/second hand stores...then after that go to petco or petsmart but makesure you signup for the free membership withthem cause it sometimes gives you a couple dollars off on the item....also petsmart sells these little 1 gallon or is it a 1/2 gallon i dont member but they are small tanks but they are designed just like large tanks with glass sides but it comes with a glass top which when the tank is set up makes it a super tank for retaining humidity

I've never seen plain 20 gallons at Wal mart before, just the 10's. Petsmart is good. walmart doesnt tend to sell them cause do to there bad handling practices they tend to brake however some walmart carry tanks up to 60 gallons i believe i saw a 50 gallon at my walmart about 3 weeks ago....but never buy the larger tanks from walmart cause they tend to have cracks in them or the sealent isnt right and it will leak
