Hey Folks, I'm fresh back from a 2-week spin through Australia. While there I spent time in the field with a number of noteworthy Australian carnivorous plant field workers, including Robert Gibson, Phill Mann, and Allen Lowrie. In total I visited more than 29 field sites with carnivorous plants. Frankly, I just don't know where to begin. I'm still plowing through my photography---killing the duds and nonsense, I've still got nearly 400 images. Western Australia is....amazing. Stop your car just about anywhere and, as long as there is native bush, you will almost certainly find native CP. It's grotesque, almost. Embarrassing. Believe everything Phill Mann has to say about diversity of plants in southwest Western Australia. He's not exaggerating. I saw so many plants...I'm not even sure exactly how many yet. The list is somewhere near 50 species/subspecies. And the orchids??? And the StylidiumI'm in shock. Barry

Pinglover Don't hold your breath with waiting for Barry to sort out his photos, he will be going forever so I thought I'd start the ball rolling. Three days in the field can be an experience, but then when your with Barry it goes far beyond that. Here are a couple of the "familiar" scenes when with Barry. I have a feeling I'm going to regret this when Barry sees it. Cheers Phill

Ohhhhhh.....
So that's how it is, huh? Gotcha. Paybacks on the way.
Here I've been quietly adjusting my site's CSS coding to accept a whole slew of new images. I can see I'll have to step up the pacing. Images are on the way....
I guess bum-up is a pretty common stance for me, eh?

P.S. The picture of me and the Cephalotus is pretty honest, Il admit. That pretty much captures the feel for the hole trip.

What do you mean, "no plant photos." I see D. gigantea, D. stolonifera, D. ramellosa, D. menziesii subsp. menziesii, and Cephalotus. Philll might be able to point out more.

Sort of had some nice close ups in mind as opposed to your back, your open mouth, the top of your head, and your hind end ;D.
I know you've got some good close ups. Cough em up!

Hey Pinglover, Well, the problem is that I've got an embarrassment of riches. I'm having to restructure my online photo gallery because of all this. I am working as hard as I can...but don't hold your breath just yet as it takes a while. In the meantime, I will offer up the few photographs taken, not by me, but by my lovely wife. The first documents that I am apparently not the only person to be seen bum-upwards in the field: This second image shows that....well...I'm not saying that Phill smells funny....maybe it is the smell of his soap....but, well, Beth and I are not the only ones who noticed he has a somewhat floral-sweet personal scent... That happened everywhere we went....karri forest, bus stops, shopping malls....

lol they have those birds at the long beach aquarium i think i dont remember but i went to one of the places down there and they had an atrium with hundreds of those birds and you could pay a dollar for a little cup of food to feed them and they would land on your hand then walk to your hands and eat from the cups of liquid banana fruit mixes. you cant see the hundreds of plants in the pictures? there every where ...there a little hard to see....but there are hundreds of them.....lol jk pinglover

That happened everywhere we went....karri forest, bus stops, shopping malls.... In Phill's defense I found the rosellas to be like that when I was down there years and years ago... I think it is just their nature. Wish I knew what happened to the photo of me with 4 on each arm, 2 climbing my chest and a kookaburra on my head...
