There were a couple archived posts about this genus back in 2000 on the omnisterra listserv, but I was wondering if anyone else had seen the 2007 publication that tested for their carnivory? Interesting article:
Fritsch, P.W., Almeda, F., Martins, A.B., Cruz, B.C., and Estes, D. (2007). Rediscovery and phylogenetic placement of Philcoxia minensis (Plantaginaceae), with a test of carnivory. Proceedings of the California Academy of Sciences, Fourth Series, 58(21): 447-467.
Very interesting history. 34 years between collection of the first specimen and the formal description by Lloyd et al. in 2000. Fritsch et al. did a very good job at describing their methods and while their test for proteases were negative, they gave some very possible alternatives as to why the test may have been negative.
