Does anyone know of any reason not to use egg cartons for potting up sarra seedlings?
My thoughts are; so long as there are no harmful substances in the cardboard (these are recycled cartons) they would make great temporary pots for freshly sprouted sarra seedlings.
My greenhouse has over head mist watering that comes on for a minute every hour during summer so they wouldn't be sitting in a tray.
Because the plants get a little water often the cardboard would allow the excess to leach out of the soil mix, thus keeping it moist and not water logged.
Anyone have an opinion or tried something similar?
Let me know what you think.
Dave.

I tried egg cartons. Thought being I would be able to cut them apart to transplant individual seedlings with less disturbance to the delicate root systems. I found that the egg cartons did not break down as fast as anticipated and they impeded growth of the seedlings. I'm back to the double tray method.
