Excellent plants and photos! It looks like the plants enjoy the surface gravel. Do you top dress the media with gravel or is it the main ingredient? Does the coarse gravel inhibit gemmae growth?

Steve This species normally grows in the gravel loam soil. I use it to keep the soil from the plants. I think that the gravel often allows the gemmae a better chance to get started especially if the weather dries out and burns the new roots. Phill

radjess331, I followed the instructions showed here. Only the top layer is pure gravel (coarse river sand).

While Phill's plants are enjoying the cool of autumn. Mine are flapping in the wind with harsh conditions. The worst so far: 33degC and 28%RH. ;D   Notice the plant on the bottom left hand corner? It keeps dying back and growing, dying back and growing.
