Here you can find D. brevifolia anytime of the year. But winter and spring seem to be the best times.

I didn't have time to take pics of the D. brevifolia. They were growing a little ways down the road. I was so amazed by the color of of the vft's and the veining of the rubras, that I spent all my time taking pics of them. I'll get pics of them when I go back. When you go back to a cp site in the summer that you found in the winter, sometimes you find even more species. I'll go back in april or may. That's the easiest time to find cp's because of the flowers. I'll have some nice pics to post then.
I will post pics of some other sites in the coming weeks.

When vft's here go dormant, they only really just stop growing. On warm winter days they are active. If fact one of the big traps that I was trying to get a good pic of closed when I moved a leaf out of the way. Most of the cp's here stay semi-active during the winter. I think the only ones that goes completely dormant are the S. flava and D. filiformis.

I live in NC and I know the area very well. I have found sundews (I can't remember which species) about a mile from there. I've also found a great S.flava site. There are reports of VFT's in the area but I haven't found any there yet.
The area is a very large Carolina Bay area. One of the best. Jessups pond is on the edge of a Carolina bay but it's not one.
I don't know if it's too late to offer, but I'd be glad to meet you there and help you search. I can also show you cp's nearby.
The Green swamp is about 80 miles from there. I actuly live about 10 miles from the Green Swamp and I would also be glad to show you cp's arund the Green swamp area.

Hey I know those plants. That's a great vft site. Unfortunately The land is for sale. So I don't know how long this site will have vft's on it. That S.purpurea is from another site that is planned for development. I have some summer pics of those same vfts in the "News from the field" forum. icps.proboards105.com/index.cgi?board=northamerica&action=display&thread=1174197849 Vft's are tougher than people think. It can get quite cold here where they grow. It's been down to 0f. It drops below freezing numerous times a year. I have even grown them in the north outside where it the temps won't get above freezing for weeks. They survived just fine.

I have "Green Swamp" in my google alerts, so anytime it's the words green and swamp are in a news article I get an email. I get emails about your green swamp all the time.
Let me know when you're in the area and I can show you some good sites.

Tanja, I'm originally from Bladenboro about 35 miles from Fayetteville.
I know Florida has a Green Swamp, but our Green Swamp has VFT's.

Once upon a time I lived in Ohio. There are some great kettle bogs there. I visited a few of them while I was living there, but I never got the chance to see the famous Cranberry Island bog. The weather was too cold and I missed the pine savannas so I had to come back home.
I love showing off the local cp sites. Anytime that you're in the area let me know. I can show you 20 plus species of cp's, depending upon the time of year.

My name is Mark and I live in Holden Beach NC. I'm about 10 miles from the famous Green swamp.
I've been a moderator of Terraforums for about 5 years, I think. The people there are some of the best people I've ever met.
I used to really enjoy growing cp's but I've found I much rather spend my time looking for and photographing cp's in the wild. It's much more rewarding to find a new field full of pitcher plants and vft's than watching them grow in pots.
I also am very into conserving cp's and their habitats. Living in a prime cp area, I see sites being lost almost every day. I want to save all of them but with the rate of development in this area, I can't even save one percent of them. I can only do what I can. . I have been the head of conservation of NASC for about two years.
I'm also into reptiles. I love finding snakes. I have some very good pics of my finds. I don't know if there is an interest in my snake pics here, but if there is, I'll post some of them.
I know most of you don't know me by my name. Most of you only hear about me once a year. You guys can't hide, I still have the hate mail you sent me. lol
