Is it possible to use a completely inorganic soil mixture for growing CPs? If so, what should the mixture be? I would like to try using fewer organic ingredients to help the environment.

Hi,
I live in the Detroit area and I was wondering whether anyone knows about places where I can see native CPs.
Thanks

I recently acquired a bare-root N. Rajah. I was wondering what the best soil mix is. I was thinking a combination of the following: long-fiber sphagnum moss, perlite, vermiculite, charcoal, peat, red lava clay, silica sand, orchid bark, etc.

Thank you for the help. I think it might have been over watered since there was so much rain. I think i might want to do a repotting with more loose soil. The soil I have is getting a bit compact. And the change of environment shock could have also contributed.

Can someone please tell me what happened? I was growing my plants indoors for the winter under very ideal conditions and it was green and fine. Now its turning this yucky brown color when i took it back outside for the spring. It did not experience a temperature under 60 degrees. It seems to get worse when it rains. Attachments:

Hi,
I have a sarracenia purpurea ssp. venosa. It was torn up completely by a squirrel when I had left it on patio overnight. All the pitchers were gone, but the roots were intact. I had to repot the plant because the squirrel also dropped my pot (glazed ceramic) off the edge of the patio and broke it. This occured about two months ago(late july-early august). So the plant survived and its growing, but so far there is only one 2.5 inch pitcher. With dormancy season arriving soon, is the plant still too small to put into dormancy? I am afraid it will die due to its shock and delicate situation.
Thank you

Hi. My nepenthes rajah leaves have been turning a light/moderate shade of red on newer leaves and sparsely red on old leaves. The new leaves are still pitchering, which I think is a good sign. My setup uses two fluorescent light bulbs, one is 5000k and the other is 5500k. The humidity is 50% throughout the day and raised to 80% at night. Temp is approx 75-78F during the day and 67F at night. Is there anything I should be concerned about?

I have a sarracenia purpurea ssp. purpurea. I live in michigan, so since this plant is native the great lakes area, can I just leave my plant outside for the winter (in its glazed ceramic pot)? Or would it be safer to leave it in the fridge for a few months?
Thanks

Hi
I have a s. purpurea venosa and it is almost full with insects it collected. I noticed there is a very putrid smell emanating from the pitchers. Is this because it's overfed? Will it rot the pitchers? I was thinking maybe a good solution would be to try flushing out the pitchers with water. If anyone could please help me that would be great.
Thanks
