Would anyone be able to tell me why I'm having deformed traps on my plant. Something tells me it has something to do with the substrate it's in. I bought it from a Lowes not far from my house.

Deformed traps / leaves could be a sign of insect infestation such aphids, water and/or substrate with too high mineral/nutrient content. Insufficient light could also be a contributing factor. Inspect the plant for pests. Water only rain, distilled or reverse-osmosis filtered water. Substrate should be a quality sphagnum peat moss without added fertilizer, live sphagnum moss or dried Long Fiber Sphagnum moss. Additions to the substrate should be clean silica/quartz sand or perlite - sand preferred. Construction or beach sand can have limestone or sandstone which is not pH neutral. Insufficient light usually manifests itself with long spindly leaves and lack of red coloration.
