At the risk of becoming the bringer of bad news I'm sad to report that the CP-world has lost another member of high standing. Geoff Wong has died in San Fransico.
Many of you will know more about him than me, but for me his name was one of the first International names that stuck in my mind. When I bought The Savage Garden many years ago I was taken by a picture in it that showed one of Geoff's plants. It showed a stunning Genlisea display with the plant growing in a container with Sphagnum and its traps growing through holes in the bottom into a clear container with water. (picture also made it into the revised edition). It is still on my list of things I want to try sometime.....perhaps this is a good moment as sort of a way of remembering.....

I remember that photograph in my copy of The Savage Garden as well, as well as the one of his Drosophyllum in the chapter on the dewy pine in the same book. I joined the Bay Area Carnivorous Plant Society this year and saw some of his spectacular plants in the photographs on the website. It is sad to know that I will not have a chance to meet him.

What will become of his beloved collection, do you think? I hope they are in capable hands.
