Gather 'round and hear this tale... A few decades ago, when I was a novice at seeing CP in the field, I was on a vacation in South Carolina. I took a day to track down a site that Don Schnell had told me about. After a few hours, I was within a km of the site, but was stopped by a fence and a "no trespassing" sign. I am slightly ashamed to admit this, but being young and foolish, I hopped the fence and skulked around the bushes. Children, do not do what I have done. It is a recipe for buckshot in your butt. Yet, the world is not inherently a moral place, and I was rewarded for my sin by spectacular views of mixed stands of Sarracenia flava, including marvelous coppertops (var. cuprea). I was a terrible photographer back then, but here is a barely usable image from that trip: I spent a few sweet hours there, simply poking around and exploring, until I heard a couple of farm dogs barking in the distance. I hustled back to the fence, hopped across, and darted into my car. Anyway, I just checked the site, via GoogleEarth. Here--I'll give you the EXACT coordinates for the location. And you'll see why--today--I am in a sad mood. 33° 4.026'N 80° 11.334'W

I'm guessing there are no Sarracenia under that roof :-( Treasure the species in your collection, folks, and endeavor to distribute them as far and wide as you can. (legally, of course. Gather and share seed whenever possible: genetic diversity is paramount!)
Its not hard to imagine conditions where all we have left is what people have in private collections.

Wow... That is awful. Indeed, so much habitat is being lost at such an alarming rate, our grandchildren may have to resort to botanical gardens and CP collections to even see a live plant. And the cheaper land prices these days are making it easier for investors to buy and clear said lands and their surrounding areas for commerce reasons. Thus...the mission continues.... Brian
