Hey Everyone, The Orchid people have about 2 or 3 clubs here on the central coast (at least is San Luis Obispo County), the Cactus people have a club (I just attended their annual show last week- very nice). I have looked around and have not found a CP group around here. If there are any central coasters out there, I am interested in starting a group up. I have ideas for what such a group could look like but am interested in hearing other people's ideas.
Either post back here or PM me if you are interested.

Dang, I live in Monterey Bay. Google maps says it would take me 2hrs 28 minutes to get to SLO. BACPS meetings are far enough. Good luck though.

Hey, I would be open to doing a joint thing. I do make it up to Monterey at least twice a year to visit the Aquarium. (By the way- I am super jealous! I would love to live in Monterey- I would probably never leave the Aquarium!)
I actually live in Paso Robles anyway which is closer to Monterey by about 30 minutes.

By joint thing, by the way, I mean rotating meetings between SLO and Monterey Counties.

PM sent. Now that the quarter is over (after today!), I plan to post some Craigslist ads in the next few days here to see if we can get something going. I am thinking a regional thing, rather than county, might be the way to go.

Not so far. I know of a handful of people in the area with collections but not many. I thought about advertising on craigslist or something but have been really busy and did not think it was a good time on my end. I am still interested though.

Kind of in the same boat, the one person who I shared stuff and had an interest in CPs that I knew locally passed away recently. I'm tempted to try the Cactus and Succulent Society that meets in SLO, have heard from a few members of the club that there are a couple CP growers in their group. Same goes for the Orchid group. Apparently there are 2-3 Fossil and Gem clubs in the county as well, all varying degrees of activity. If the local club were more active I'd probably join, but I think it's kind of lost interest with those my age or younger.
There was someone advertising Sarrencia alata plants for sale awhile ago on CL, I got one. Survived our mild winter outdoors in my dry climate, all my sarrencias did fine except I lost my s. flavas. Havent seen much else since online locally. I might start listing some Pinguiculas, propagation went a little too well on some of the P. 'aphrodite'. I've been giving them away to friends.

I sent you a PM about an idea for a local group.
You lost all of your flavas? What did you have? My sarracenias are all doing very well except one of my S. oreophila seedlings may not make it. For some reason my little oreophilas got hit with a soil fungus about a month ago. Really weird. I think the strange temperature fluctuations at the time were to blame.
You sure the flavas are dead? Perhaps they just went really dormant. My S. 'adrian slack' sort of did that. Almost no leaves left. Now its breaking dormancy and sending up leaves.

The flavas didnt seem to like the light watering like the rest did. retained too much water and rotted out with some mold or something, there was no return. Pretty disappointing since they did so well last year. They filled up quickly with wasps out here. I plan on setting up a bog, since most survived, I only lost the flavas and a few I tried to divide that were too small.
