Hi all, my brother is becoming interested in CPs, and he wants to buy one of his own so I can show him the basics of these amazing plants. Any ideas on what a good beginner plant might be?

Welcome to the forum Franky. It looks like you and your brother have all sorts of questions. Rather than answering them all individually I thought I'd direct you to a site that has the answers to lots of questions people often have about carnivorous plants. www.sarracenia.com/faq.htmlIt is a website written and maintained by a member of the ICPS, Barry Rice, and it contains some of the best answers to the questions you have asked on the forum recently (much better explained than I would be able to do here). There is a lot of information there, which can be a little intimidating, but I have a feeling you'll be excited by it all. Lucky for your brother, some really interesting species are also great plants for beginners. Have a look through the FAQ, Barry talks about those species too. Happy growing!

Thanks so much for the link, but I have already visited this site in the past. I would agree it is full of info and a great site for CP growers. (I love Barrys sense of humor in the FAQ too!) I have not looked at anything about beginner plants on his site yet, which I will do right now! Thanks again for the reply.

What are you looking for? An indoors plant or outdoors one? For that matter, what sort of temperature is it in New Hampshire? I'd say that a sarracenia or VFT could be a good choice.

I would recommend a Drosera Capensis or a Dionaea Muscipula, maybe a Sarracenia Purpurea.

Rookie mistake, this question. The correct question is what "plants", as in plural. ;D The three that nepenthes77 recommended are great choices.
Cheers,
Joe
