To start, I do not have a green thumb. Everything I try to grow seems to die within days. I am more of an animal person but I live in an apartment and cannot afford to pay pet rent, so am hoping plants would serve as an alternative. My interest in carnivorous plants started when I saw Little Shop of Horrors as a kid and later found out there are plants very much like the one in the movie called Venus Flytraps. In Junior High I got a couple but they quickly died because I listened to the guy at the store who said to feed them hamburger meat. Gah. I'm older and hopefully wiser now, and being a mommy of a little boy who loves Plants vs. Zombies, thought he would find carnivorous plants to be pretty cool. So we got one Venus Flytrap and one Butterwort the other day from Lowe's and we'll see how we do! I look forward to participating on the forum, learning from all of your experiences and hope to share some good ones of my own. I do love plants and really hope I will be successful keeping these wonders alive.

Welcome, SchizoSkittles! This forum is a great way to find information on cultivation of carnivorous plants (if you haven't been to the 'How to' section of the main ICPS home page at www.carnivorousplants.org/howto/ I'd recommend that) and just to see what others are doing in the same arena. It's great that you found your way here. Good luck with your flytrap and butterwort! - Mark

Hey Skits -- Welcome to the ICPS Forum! I agree with with Mark (bluemax) -- it's great that you found your way here! CPs and Zombies -- two of my favorites, I had no idea it was a game. You will find a lot of super information here that will help you (and the next generation of CPer)! Since you are in a place where you can influence a young mind, you should check out the ICPS Education page, and in particular this one www.carnivorousplants.org/Education/W5CP/ Enjoy! Mike

Thank you for the welcome and the recommended pages, Mark and Mike. I absolutely love the Education page! My husband is a teacher at a K-8 school and I love volunteering, maybe I'll suggest something like this. I also plan on writing and illustrating children's books, and it has really inspired me. I can't wait to look into these pages and the rest of the site in more detail. It's amazing the abundance of information it offers. Hooray!
