Has anyone ever experimented with perlite as a medium? I am personally experimenting with Drosera capensis in pure perlite. I am using a plastic container filled with perlite and with rainwater added, much like hydroponic system. Let's see how it goes.

Several decades ago I attempted to grow Dionaea muscipula in pure perlite. It was not successful.
Presently I use lots of perlite in my cultivation of Mexican Pinguicula, species and hybrids. I have not noticed the same, or any problems, like I did when trying it with Dionaea muscipula.
Using perlite has often been problematic for me, because it floats in water and I like to use lots of water. I am also trying pumice which is available locally and is very similar to perlite, but is heavier than water and does not float.

Interesting medium too and also as you said heavier, worth a try
