Thank you Bob. I don't have time to add much at this moment but we will be adding some information here for anyone interested in learning about NASC. Thank you for giving us this space and opportunity. Suzanne, Vice-President NASC

Ever since I saw a post on Terraforums saying "Sign up now to get your free plants", they're an organisation that I don't have much faith in. It seemed they were targeted at plant collectors.
I hope they have changed and are now giving back some of the plants they are growing to places like the Nature Conservancy to be used in restoration projects. April

Hi April -
Thanks for expressing your concern about the NASC. While I'm not sure who would have made such a post on Terraforums, I can tell you without a doubt that this is certainly NOT the case! NASC is a valid nonprofit organization, and our mission statement says it all. Our plans call for establishing a living record (the NASC Collection) of Sarracenia, especially location-specific plants. The benefits of this include allowing the NASC to become a plant 'bank' for educational and scientific purposes, and for conservation organizations to use for reintroduction purposes.
This is most assuredly NOT some grab bag for anyone who wants free plants. All NASC-coded plants are assigned a code based on species/hybrid and origin bog location, and these plants remain NASC property, to be used for the purposes stated above.
If you subscribe to the CP list serve, you may have read last week about the plight of the educational CPs in the greenhouse at Texas Tech University. Well the NASC board has already agreed to send some Sarracenia to them for their educational purposes. THIS is what the NASC is all about.
I hope that you will take the time to review our full Mission Statement and our Bylaws on the NASC web site. I think this may put some of your concerns to rest. By all means, feel free to contact any board member, myself included, for more information.
Good Growing!

April -
I also meant to mention that you may want to see the Grower Committee thread I started. This will give you a little more information on what we're doing as far as living material goes.
Good Growing,

I can also assure you that no such thing is now nor has ever been an action of NASC. I have done a search on TerraForums looking for those words and came up with nothing. I have never seen such a post. If such a beast exists, I can guarantee you it was not made by anyone officially representing NASC. As Mike stated, that is NOT what NASC is about.
Any plant material given away will be given to other conservancies for educational and/or preservation reasons.
If you can provide me a link to that post, I'd appreciate it. I'd like to have that addressed and corrected.
Thank you.
