Hey Folks,
The ICPS has a strong, vibrant, growing conservation program. We have a set of conservation grants and a highly visible web site that has important conservation content.
The ICPS is currently poised as a moderate, yet firm advocate for conservation, which balances the value of natural biodiversity with the interests of horticulture and science.
We have emerged, in the eyes of other conservation workers, from the shadows of a history of connections with poachers, to a sincere organization with a firm grounding in science and conservation.
We have, over the last several years, completed appropriate paperwork associated with maintaining permits with the US Fish & Wildlife Service, allowing the ICPS to distribute seeds of Threatened and Endangered species.
However, there are many things we have not done. For example, we have not properly addressed conservation in the global arena--most of our conservation work (and ALL of our grants) have been limited to within the USA.
I am not looking for suggestions on what the ICPS should do better. Rather, I am looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking, mature person who can maintain the composure needed to seek innovative solutions in conservation of carnivorous plants.
If you are enthusiastic about conservation, and if you are willing to put in the volunteer work, you will find that helping guide the ICPS conservation program is immensely satisfying. If this interests you, please contact me directly at barry(at)carnivorousplants.org
Incidentally, having a PhD after your name helps open doors, but is not necessary.
Cheers
Barry
