In my web wanderings I came across an article abstract from October 2009 looking at glycoside compounds in P. lusitancia. In the abstract it indicated that P. lusitanica was an endangered carnivorous plant species.
I hadn't come across P. lusitanica listed as an endangered species--or have I missed something? Is it considered endangered?

Hello Mike, To my knowledge, Pinguicula lusitanica is not on the Endangered Species list. Many folks, (such as myself) consider all CP species somewhat endangered, due to increasing habitat destruction and land drainage. So, that may possibly be the context in which the previously mentioned author was speaking from. As far as I know, Pinguicula ionantha is the only Pinguicula on the list. Happy Growing, Brian Barnes, ICPS Director of Conservation.

Dear Brian,
I believe you're correct, but P. lusitanica is from Europe and the Endangered Species Act only covers species from the USA.

I just re-read my original post -- my apologies for my species name typo (I claim tired brain and fingers).
I think you guys are right and it's more of the context of the article, and the authors locale (Portugal).
The point about Endangered Species Act/USA versus international settings is well taken. I should have thought to check the CITES Appendices. I just checked and there were no Pinguicula listed in CITES.
As an aside, I wandered around the US Fish & Wildlife Endangered Species website and found P. ionantha was listed as threatened, and P. planifolia was listed as a species of concern.

Hi Jeff - Interesting... thanks! Are there other protected/endangered CP's in France?
Curiously, Mike
