Unfortunately, the pictures below show the story as it at current, in medias res, so, i will narrate from the beginning... Algae grows in mats at the bottom of my potted terrarium, which is nothing more then a ten gallon fish tank. Every now and again, i would clean out these massive mats, but one day, i noticed that some of the algae was actually on the side of the glass, instead of just along the bottom, and what's more, some bryophytes had made the journey to this new land and colonized it. I let it be, the nerd inside of me was amused greatly, seeing primary succession first hand. But then! A run-away Utricularia sandersonii braved the journey and set up shop there, quickly colonizing the new land, taking it right from the hands of the native mosses, which i just thought was the coolest thing ever. Now, i must confess, i cheated with this last part- seeing the potential here, i took a seedling Drosera capensis and planted it nicely at the top of this new found land, and while it suffered a little, i think it is making a nice recovery. Dorky, yes, but it amuses me, and hopefully another terrarium-user will find it nifty too.

Very cool, never happens in my tank, (I'm made to clean and drain it every couple of weeks ). Let us know how the seedling does! Williamg
