I have always been interested in the natural look of a bog garden. I built one last year it was about a 2' square and 1' deep. it was great it had a rock border and i was ready for the plants! But tragedy struck... I knew i had to get the soil nice and wet but only with distiled water/rain. so i bought like 5 gallons of water and it rained Nicely for a day or two. what did i do wrong for the water. i had holes about 6" from the bottom on the liner was that too much? in conclusion i gave up on the bog garden and made it into a herb garden and used pots for my CPs.

Tell us why you think you did something wrong. Did the plants die or dry out?

I went out and mixed the soil and it wasnt wet. it wasnt wet enough for my pitchers and my fly traps.

when i made my bog i didnt make any holes but the first atemp to make a bog i made one in the ground and it dint really look nice and was in a shaded place so i got a half of those wooden barrels and put the liner in ther and put some polystyrene in the bottom but not alot put the peat back in and planted up it lived but not to well i think i put to much peat in and i level it out and liner dint look to nice bc i rushed it and by the beginning of this spring the plants wernt really lookin in good shape plus i lost some so i put them in pots and put them in the green house now they look nice so i decided to make it a third time and get it right but the liner had a slight hole in it ner the edge but i dont matter it just wont be able to over flow but i put the liner in put lots of plastic waste like old pots and polystrene in till about half way this will hold water threw the summer anyway then put peat back in filled it with water from the water but then cut of all the over hang and then made some humps and put a ditch in the middle for bladderworts and now im away just planted them in few days ago but i got high hopes for this like they say third time lucky so if was u i wouldent bother putting any holes in i wonted mine to over flow now and then thats wot happens in the wild and would help keeping bladderworts but i got a hole in it some how about 3 inches down but put plastic material in the bottom to help hold more water
