Hello I am a brand new grower from NJ. Just wanted to say hi and get in a quick question. I bought sphagnum peat moss to make my bog garden about two weeks ago. It was a rough first week for the plants but in the last few days they have made a turn for the better. The thing is there are about 5 or 6 tiny plants that have sprouted up they each have 2 leaves directly opposite each other. They don't look like cp's, could they be weeds? I'm just wondering if I should remove them before they invade or let them grow and see what they become. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and hello again.

Hi Steven, I know the feeling. If you're not sure it might pay to wait a little while until they grow a few more leaves. Keep an eye on them they are dicots and as are most cp's and the first pair of leaves won't look like the adult plant if they are seedlings. If you still are'nt sure you could try posting a photo of them on the forum. Often sphagnum peat can have plant seeds in it.

Post a picture. All CPs are dicots so it could be one. If not, its some companion plant and more than likely won't do any harm. Let it go for a little bit and if you don't like it just rip it out.
Dang you beat me! haha

Thanks for the replies, I went on Vacation for a week thats why I didn't get back sooner. It ended up that my brother pulled em out while I was away so I didn't get a chance to post a picture or find out what they were. But it looks like some new ones are growing so as soon as they are large enough to be distinguishable ill post a pic. But now I have a new problem. Something is eating my plants. When I came home my butterwort was shredded to pieces and completely derooted which led me to believe it was something large like a squirrel or rabbit or something but my fly trap and pitcher plants have little pieces taking out so I was thinking maybe those were an insect problem. The problem is I never catch anything on or near my plants so I dont know what the problem is or how to solve it. Should i put mesh netting around them ? And if I do that it wont solve the bug problem so how do I fix that ? An one last question thanks for the help , I have 'tarnok' pitcher plants and I was just wondering when they flower, will the stalk look different than the new pitchers that are growing ? Cause I wanna make sure if my brother decides to deweed the bog again that he doesn't remove a flower, I'm waiting to see the double flower thing I see and read about on the internet. Thanks again for everything..
