Hello All,
Hopefully everyone is staying as warm as possible and counting the days until Spring as much as I am!
Great news! My first goal in 2009 as Director of Conservation has officially been achieved.
The ICPS and FCPS shall now be working closely with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in their extensive tagging of Fl. native Sarracenia and other endangered carnivorous plants, which will eventually include....you guessed it, The Florida Panhandle.
This will also include the inspection, assessment and cataloging of all species prior to prescribed fire and afterwards as well, by location!
This now opens the door for the ICPS to become more deeply involved in the monitoring and well being of our beloved CP.
I'm waiting now for Gregg Walker, one of Florida's FDEP Biologists to give me a schedule of prescribed burns for the year and the areas involved. We will then schedule a meeting between the State's Biologists and the ICPS and FCPS. I can see good things down the road for the ICPS.
I'm asking all FCPS Members that can, to be on standby to volunteer in aiding this project and getting it of the ground....and into the air!
I'll be doing an ongoing report on this thread, as accomplishments are made. Stay Tuned!
