i just built this today, it consists of two hard plastic liners(same diameter, different height) with the shorter(9 gal) stacked on the taller(29 gal). The reservoir space underneath holds about 15 gallons. The water circulates around and hopefully it works. Let me know what ya'll think. picasaweb.google.com/billylh/BogGarden~b

i also saw at the local nursery bags of gardening charcoal. I was wondering if this stuff would be safe to line the bottom of my next bog and would there really be any filtration benefits from this?
thanks, ~b

If you changed the charcoal every so oft, one could argue that you'll remove some heavy metal and organics from the water/soil, but if left there, it'll initially trap some of the aforementioned, but eventually it will reach saturation level and start leaching it back into the soil. I also see that you have some S. rubra in there which tends to be smaller than the other species. Make sure that the other plants don't shade your smaller ones too much.

brokken, no worries, the rubra sits on the sunny side of the bog. good observation though
