Hello
We are reconstructing the history of the carnivorous tree
Now, we are in year 1878,
year when two very similar articles appear in France, in May and September:
- One is say as an original tale from a French sailor
- The other one as the translation of an article from an American newspaper : the World of New York
Do you know an article in the States or elsewhere before 1878?
If yes have you the references of this article??
Cordially

The Carle Liche account of 1878 is most often cited and no doubt this is what you refer to.
I recommend seeking a copy of Carnivorous Plants and "The Man-Eating Tree" by Sophia Prior - Botany Leaflet 23, Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, 1939. Among other things it makes mention of an account of a man-eating flower from 1581, although the veracity of the date is questionable.
You are entering the realms of myth and legend and so, good luck!
