I was going to use this in my bog. Does it have a lot of requirements to maintain health? Also, how fast does it grow?

Sphagnum likes cool and moist conditions with indirect light to grow best.
I've got it growing under my benches in the GH and I find that it grows relatively quickly when given the right conditions. Infact I've had to thin it out a few times and I've been able to harvest some to put in some of my soil mix.
My goal is to have it growing under all my benches so I have a replenishable source. I haven't been able to find it available in the stores for quite some time so the only way is to grow it myself.
I think Australian quarantine have banned it's importation due to the high number of foreign seeds and plants that are carried in the moss.
There is another post somewhere here that has some really good links to some excellent info on how to grow sphanum well.
If I find it I will post the link here, or perhaps someone else might remember where it is and do it for us.
Dave.

NIce, I think all I have to do is but it on my garden bowl with Sarracenias, VFTs, sundews, and temperate butterworts and watch it grow! All I've got to do is to make sure it stays wet and that gets some light everyday, right?
Also, how long can sphagnum stay wet in case I have to go on a trip?

I've had some live sphagnum in plastic bags since I collected it in December at grandma's and it's doing fine. If you've got a terrarium or greenhouse setup, it should be ok for a while. I also have used some as top dressing for some of my CPs and it stays damp for weeks. I also mist once or twice a day and my terrarium isn't sealed or a "planted" terrarium. With it as the main ingredient in my sarras and VFTs it seems to always be st least damp. It will turn brown at the tips if it starts to dry out. Hope that helps. Angela
