I have a somewhat new outdoor bog that I dug into the ground in my backyard about a couple of weeks ago, I germanated two types of plants a (cobra lily and a purple pitcher plant) about a week ago. But for the past couple of days I noticed green stuff growing on the top of the soil. Is this a good thing since bog gardens are supposed to resemble swamp land or a very bad thing? And I also have another question, the soil is SOOOO lose how can a plant anchor into the soil and keep itself in the ground? Because if I wanted I could stick my whole arm and touch the bottom of the bog with ease Thank you all in advance and I hope you all respond with good news.

I'm no expert, but I've made a few mini-bogs in the last year. Though the soil mix should be lose (I use sphagnum peat moss and perlite 60/40), the mixture should not be so insubstantial that you can bury your whole arm in there. Maybe you have too much water in the mix?
